The sanctuary of Machu Picchu was chosen as one of the Seven New Modern Wonders of the World in 2007, in a worldwide online voting system, since this destination is very visited, there are many different ways to access Machu Picchu; one of them is by train, by foot and however this tends to be very expensive. Today there is an alternate route that can be accessed by car to the village of Hidroelectrica this is one option for all visitors who are on a budget.
In this tour you will enjoy a picturesque route that initiates in the city of Cusco and goes through different villages in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, it continues towards snow-capped Andean mountains and descends towards a tropical jungle zone. Due to the varying degrees of altitude, it is recommended to bring with you some medicine against dizziness or altitude sickness.
Continuing our trip towards Hidroelectrica we will pass through the villages of Huyro, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa and finish in the village of Hidroelectrica. From this point we will commence a 2 – 3 hour walk until we reach the town of Machu Picchu, on this route we will walk to edge of the train tracks on a smooth and not very difficult walk. Once we arrive at the town of Machu Picchu we will go to our accommodation (link to the types of accommodation) to rest, take a bath and then reunite with the group and the guide to receive the necessary information to visit WaynaPicchu Mountain.
General description of the trip:
This trip has been prepared for travellers who like to enjoy and appreciate nature. Before, the only means of transportation to Machu Picchu was by train. Now there is another way to enter Machu Picchu, which is through the Machu Picchu by car until arriving at Hidroelectrica and embarking on a walk of 2 – 3 hours is made until arriving at the Village of Machu Picchu and the next day the visit is made to the mountain of Machu Picchu and returns in the same way to the city of Cusco. The tour of Machu Picchu for 2 days () is the perfect way to spend time enjoying the journey if you are a little short on time.
ITINERARY
DAY 1: CUSCO – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES
Departure time: 07:30 a.m.
Duration by bus: 7 hours of travel, approximately 85% of the road is paved and 15% is dirt road.
(The bus has 2 stops in Ollantaytambo for 15 minutes to use the bathroom and board the passengers who hired the service in this zone)

07:30 am we will approach our mobility, we will receive a small recording about the necessary information and the recommendations prior to leaving Cusco, The tour will start with a pleasant and scenic sight of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, traversing through villages such as Ollantaytambo and others, going through the valley we will ascend towards the highest point of our trip “Abra Málaga” which is located at an altitude of 4,316 meters, at the foot of the Verónica mountain.
After traversing the highest point the trip continues with the beautiful landscape of the Peruvian Andes after an approximation of 15 minutes we will start the descent towards the jungle, passing through the different micro – climates that make these landscapes a paradise within the majestic snow-covered peaks and making of this trip an unforgettable experience.
At approximately 12:00 p.m. we will realise a short break in the village of Huamanmarca in this location, we will have lunch as well as have sufficient time in order to use the bathroom, as well as prepare ourselves for our final stop in Hidroelectrica.
We will continue our route passing through the town of Alfamayo, Hyuro: located at 1500 mts one of the largest tea producers in Peru, producing high quality Huyro tea
By having a warm and tropical climate you can also appreciate a lot of plantation of fruit trees such as banana, pineapple, mango, orange granadilla, mandarin and many more.
Town of Santa María: Located at 1590 meters above sea level, this place is highly visited by tourists due to the its production of coffee and coca leaves.
Finally we will arrive at the village of Hidroelectrica, at 14:30 hrs, in this location we will realise a stop in the terminal of Machu Picchu By Bus. At this point we will be able to regain our energy in order to continue with our journey.
From here we will start with the walk following the dirt road next to the railroad track this trail will take us approximately of 3 hours, on our hike we will be surrounded by many trees and tropical plants, until arriving at the town of Aguas Calientes or also known as Machu Picchu Village.
At approximately 17:30 hrs, we will arrive at the village of Machu Picchu that is also known as Aguas Calientes, in this location we will direct ourselves to the Hotel which was previously mentioned. After a relaxing bath it will be time to enjoy a delicious dinner together with the group and the guide. At that moment, he will have the opportunity to review the itinerary for the next day’s visit to the “Citadel of Machu Picchu”.
DAY 2: MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUSCO
Departure: 04:30 am

Climate: The temperature is hot and humid during the day and cool at night. The temperature ranges between 12° and 24° degrees.
In the morning at approximately 4:30 am we will get up to have breakfast and to start our adventure, we will have the option to begin our ascend to the Incan Citadel by bus (30 minutes) or walking for one hour and a half (bus consettur not included in the tour). We will begin our ascent towards the citadel of Machu Picchu at 2400 mts, on a this is a walk of 01 hour 30 minutes approximately by a Zigzag through the beautiful jungle witnessing the majestic sight of the mountains, flora and fauns of the location.
We will meet with the guide at 06:40 am at the main entrance of the Incan Citadel our guide will start at 07:00 am. Here you will have a guided tour for 2 hours in places like the main temple, Intihuatana solar tower, Intihuatana. At the end of the guide you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on your own accordance and climb the great WaynaPicchu Mountain by a spectacular path that will take you to the highest point to have a view of the entire landscape of the jungle and the view of the entire sanctuary of Machu Picchu.
Prior coordination with the guide you will return to the town of Machu Picchu or Aguas Calientes, walking for 1 hour on the way you can visit the museum of Machu Picchu, the butterfly museum.
After your adventure you will take the train at 19:00 hr (schedule according to reservation) arriving at the city of Ollantaytambo there will be a staff of our company will be waiting to board the bus that will take you to the final destination of Cusco.
ENTRANCE TO WAYNAPICCHU:
Due to the large number of tourists who like to visit this mountain, the entrance to Wayna Picchu sells out quickly.
Access to Wayna Picchu is limited to only 200 spaces at 7:00 a.m. and 200 in the shifts from 10:00 a.m. For this reason, we suggest making a reservation well in advance.
