The sanctuary of Machu Picchu was chosen as one of the Seven New Modern Wonders of the World in 2007, in a worldwide online voting system, since this destination is very visited, there are many different ways to access Machu Picchu; one of them is by train, by foot and however this tends to be very expensive. Today there is an alternate route that can be accessed by car to the village of Hidroelectrica, This is one option for all visitors who are on a budget.
In this tour you will enjoy a picturesque route that initiates in the city of Cusco and goes through different villages in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, it continues towards snowcapped Andean mountains and descends towards a tropical jungle zone. Due to the varying degrees of altitude, it is recommended to bring with you some medicine against dizziness or altitude sickness.
Continuing our trip towards Hidroelectrica we will pass through the villages of Huyro, Santa Maria, Santa Teresa and finish in the village of Hidroelectrica. From this point we will commence a 2 – 3 hour walk until we reach the town of Machu Picchu, on this route we will walk to edge of the train tracks on a smooth and not very difficult walk. Once we arrive at the town of Machu Picchu we will go to our accommodation (link to the types of accommodation) to rest, take a bath and then reunite with the group and the guide to receive the necessary information to visit Machu Picchu.
The following day we will make ourselves to the citadel of Machu Picchu very early in order to make the most of our time in the Lost City of the Incas. We can decide if we want to arrive by foot (1 hour 30 min) or purchase a ticket for the bus consettur (30 min) to arrive at the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu and reunite with our guide. Continuing our guided tour for 2 hours where we will be able to appreciate the beauty of this Wonder, once we have finished our guided tour we will have free time to be able to roam and enjoy the Incan citadel as we wish, and later return to the village of Machu Picchu.
After lunch we can decide whether to take in the sights of the village or opt to visit the thermal baths that can be found only 15 minutes from the village.
The third day after enjoying a delicious breakfast, at approximately 10:00 a.m. we will say farewell to the village of Machu Picchu, also known as Aguas Calientes while we embark on our walk to the Sakura Expedition bus terminal in Hidroelectrica where we will embark in order to return to the city of Cusco (7 hours). On our return journey we will have a short break of 15 minutes in the village of Huamanmarca to utilise the hygienic services.
